HCO was appointed by Studio International as Architect of Record consultant at the Amaala Staff Village, part of the wider Amaala development on the Red Sea coast. The village houses the people who run the destination, and the brief treats that accommodation as part of the offer rather than as back of house.
The staff village is to be reflective of the status and positioning of the wider management village masterplan, keeping the intent to attract and retain the best talent. In a remote destination development, staff accommodation is a recruitment instrument. The quality of the village is one of the things that determines who is willing to come and work there, and for how long.
As Architect of Record, HCO carried the design through authority submission and approval. The scope covers local and international code review and compliance, design review, Civil Defense approval and ongoing technical support.
Holding Architect of Record on a project designed by another practice is a role of translation. The design intent has to survive contact with a regulatory framework it was not drawn against, and the Architect of Record is the party that makes it compliant without letting it lose what made it worth approving. Civil Defense approval in particular sets requirements that reach back into planning, circulation and construction detail.
HCO to confirm: the number of units or beds and the site area, plus construction status and completion date. Two project figures are also needed to replace the placeholders in the statistics above.
